I've been wanting to do a post like this for a while so I am excited that I finally got my act together to do it! I am going to be sharing all of the things that I think are essential for a day exploring in the city! If I am going to be out all day, I prefer to take one of my larger bags, instead of my smaller ones, so I can be sure that I have everything I need. The transport tote from Madewell is the perfect bag for this.
When I set out for the day, especially if I am alone, I always bring a book with me. Then, if I find a cute cafe or park to sit in, I'll have something to do. I am currently reading Modern Lovers by Emma Straub and loving it! I'm almost done. I also like to bring a notebook in case I find a place that I really like and want to write it down. I have taken to writing down the locations that I really like and how I got there, so I can find it again without having to use my phone's GPS. Rifle Paper Company has the absolute cutest journals and notebooks. I have a huge stack of them sitting next to my bed that I'm afraid to write in because they're so pretty.
Sunglasses, sunscreen, hand sanitizer, and chapstick are essential as well. My eyes are extremely sensitive to the sun so I never go anywhere without them. Sunscreen is obviously important if I am going to be in the sun all day, especially for my nose and face, which burn the fastest. I am currently loving this lavender scented Alba sunscreen that I got at Whole Foods. It's paraben free and is not tested on animals. I try to always take my hand sanitzer as well. Since you never know what you're touching, I like to spritz it on my hands every once in a while. Dr. Bronner's is my fave and when I found out that they made hand sani too I was thrilled. I also always have to have chapstick on me. If I forget my chapstick, I'm going to have a really bad day because I am legit addicted to it. This peppermint one, also from Dr. Bronner's is my current fave.
Lastly, I have some boring stuff like my keys (although my keychain is adorable), my phone (case is also from Rifle Paper Company!), my wallet, some pens (actually those are pretty exciting because they're the glitter gel pens everyone used in elementary school), and my headphones to listen to music when I'm walking or on the subway (sadly, I cannot read on the subway because I get motion sick).
I'm glad I have my bag packed because I am about to set out to meet my sister for some exploration! We are headed for lunch at Bluestone Lane and probably some shopping at Anthropologie since we just got an email that everything is 20% off! Score!
P.S. I almost forgot! I pretty much ALWAYS have my trusty camera, my Samsung nx2000 with me when I go out! It's just not pictured because, well, it was being used to take the picture!
