I've been on Whole 30 for almost a week now. I am feeling great, rarely bloated and have plenty of energy. Nighttime is definitely the hardest time for me, I start to crave sweets and salt but I've found some good Whole 30 substitutes that get me through (including salted pumpkin seeds and freeze dried mangos! Thank you Trader Joe's!) I like to start my morning off healthy with some protein and fruit. I've been making some pretty good shakes, technically shakes/smoothies are not recommended by Whole 30 because the fruit in them is a lot of sugar. But I can't eat eggs for breakfast every day and I try to add a some good veggies to my smoothies as well. I've made this one a few times and its quickly becoming a favorite!
Here's how you make it:
1/2 Green Apple, skinned and chopped into smaller pieces. (I like to skin and chop up a few apples, and then put them in the freezer for easy smoothie making)
1 Banana
1 Cup Kale (I like to use Curly Kale but I guess you can technically use any kind you want. I also really love smoothies with spinach. Kale has a bit more of an earthy taste...my brother says it tastes like fresh cut grass!..so if you aren't into that spinach is a great alternative)
1 Teaspoon Matcha Tea (Matcha has great health benefits and I personally love the taste)
1 Scoop Ground Flax Seeds (these also have great benefits for health and are allowed in small quantities on Whole 30)
1 Pinch of Cinnamon (my favorite!)
1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
A few Ice Cubes
Blend it all together and enjoy! I'll be experimenting with other smoothies and Whole 30 friendly recipes throughout the month. I'll definitely be posting more.
