Homemade Peppermint Bark

Peppermint bark is one of my favorite Christmas treats. I wish it were available all year round! In my opinion, Munson's Chocolate, a local company, has the best peppermint bark. But I didn't want to break the bank buying tons of bark so I thought I would try making it instead! It seemed easy enough. I didn't even use a recipe I just made what I thought would taste good. Here's what I used:

  • Two bags of Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips
  • Two bags of candy cane melts from Michaels
  • Half a dozen candy canes (crushed)
  • Some red sprinkles

The first thing I did was crush up the candy canes. It was difficult to get them into tiny pieces but I did my best. I also added some tiny red sprinkles to the mix.

Next, melt the milk chocolate, when it's melted, spread it evenly on the bottom of a flat pan. I put it in the freezer to cool while I melted the whiteย chocolate.

Do the same thing with the white chocolate, spread it evenly on top of the milk chocolate.

As soon as you spread the chocolate evenly, pour the crushed candy cane on top. Then press it in a little. I used a flat spatula to do this, so that the candy cane actually sticks in the chocolate.

Then I put the whole thing in the freezer to harden up. After about fifteen minutes in the freezer I took it out and flipped it over so it would come out in one big piece.

I crushed it up into smaller more bite size pieces.

And voila! Beautiful and delicious peppermint bark!

Can't wait to gift this to people. Homemade gifts are sometimes so much better than store bought ones!
